Gap Year Leadership Experience
Foundation Year 2011
Description: This new Program has been developed by Maccabi Australia for launch in
2011. Applicants will combine a passion for sport with a five-month Israel experience. The
program will be based in Israel’s state of the art sports facility, the Wingate Institute, which
is located on the beach between Tel Aviv and Netanya. Participants will receive training in
their chosen sport, while also partaking in a variety of educational, Zionist and leadership
seminars, tiyulim throughout the country, Gadna (a week long army experience), Hebrew
Ulpan, Kibbutz, Yeshiva, beach weekend, as well as doing volunteering work in a sports
related field. Throughout the course, participants will meet sporting starts and attend major
sporting events from Tel Aviv Maccabi Basketball games to the Israel Tennis Open and local
rugby and netball games. The majority of the sports training is hands-on and practical, and
will lead to a recognised Coaching Certificate. Sports on offer include basketball and football,
with sports such as swimming, athletics and others to be added depending on demand. The
program is suitable for both boys and girls.
Age: Post Year 12 (17-19 year olds)
Dates: February-June 2011 (TBC)
